Year 11 students at The Charter School East Dulwich achieve strongest GCSE results yet

August 21, 2025

The Charter School East Dulwich is celebrating its strongest ever GCSE results, with Year 11 students surpassing previous records across every measure.

Alison Harbottle, Headteacher, said: “We are absolutely delighted with these exceptional results which reflect the hard work of students, the dedication and expertise of our staff and the unwavering support of families.

“This summer’s results reflect a significant step forward and celebration for the school community, with students on average achieving half a grade higher than last year across all subjects.”

The average grade rose to 5.7 overall and 5.4 in EBacc subjects – the best outcomes since the school opened and testament to the strong standards and hard work seen consistently in the school’s Year 11 preparations.

One of the most impressive improvements was in the proportion of students gaining strong passes in both English and Maths with almost two thirds achieving a Grade 5 or higher in both subjects, a 10% increase on 2024. While 34% of all GCSE grades were at Grade7-9, with 20% at Grade 8 or higher.

There were also notable achievements in a diverse range of subjects including History, Religious Studies, Sociology, Computer Science and Photography, with many students achieving fantastic grades.

In addition, outcomes for disadvantaged students rose significantly, with students achieving on average a grade higher than last year.

Every student deserves the highest praise for their dedication and commitment to their studies.

Some standout student achievements include:

Fourteen students achieved an average grade of 8 or above across their subjects: Jonathan Dyer, Isla Robinson , Agnes Grassie , Isobel Elias, Eden Hush, Daisy MacKenney, Diego Lafazanidis, Nellie Elliot, Tobias Taylor, Walter Stern, Pearl Chapple, William Smy, Archibald Davis and Sylvie Harmony.

The school is also very proud of a group of students who made significant progress and improvement over the year. They are: Melisa Mahmutoglu, James Bloomfield, Taylor Dickerson, Donte Aldridge, Rio Ribaudo-King, Cesar Rodriguez Espinoza and Samil Town.

Ms Harbottle added: “With the best GCSE results in the school’s history, this year’s success highlights the ambition and determination of a remarkable group of students. We are very proud many of them will now be staying on at our Sixth Form, while others have secured places on college and vocational courses that will support them to pursue their aspirations.

“Of course, these young people now have the results they need to move on to their next steps, but they also take with them the kindness, resilience and tenacity that will help them to go far in life. Well done everyone!

Cassie Buchanan OBE, Trust Leader at The Charter Schools Educational Trust, added: “At Charter, we are committed to providing better futures for children, young people and communities across London and beyond. We want to equip our students with the skills they need to thrive, encouraging them to have confidence in their abilities and supporting them to shine."

“We are so proud of the Class of 2025 and all that they have achieved.”
