The Charter School

East Dulwich

Governor vacancies

We currently have two vacancies for Elected Parent Governors on our Local Governing Board (LGB) at The Charter School East Dulwich school.

Parent Governors are very important in the life of the school. Parent governors can use their status as a parent/carer* to help the LGB understand parents' views and remind everyone to factor the parent community into discussions and decisions.

There is a range of support available to anyone interested in becoming a governor, including mandatory induction training. We also publish information on our website including ‘What do Governors do’ and guidance on the election process that may also be helpful. School Governors are elected for a four-year term but may stop being a Governor at any time. Also, if at some point during their term of office they no longer have a child at the school, they may continue to serve until the end of their four-year term.

Our local governing body is made up of dedicated volunteers who bring a range of skills and experience from their professional, personal and volunteering lives. We are dedicated to diversity among our governing body, and to ensuring that every voice is heard respectfully. We actively welcome and encourage applications from communities who tend to be under-represented in school governance. We are committed to continuous improvement in how representative we are of our local community, gender, sexual orientation, ethnicity, religion, age, professional background and all other aspects of diversity.

All parents and carers* of pupils who attend the school (except those who are elected members of the local authority or are paid to work at the school for more than 500 hours in a twelve-month period) are eligible to vote and stand in the election.

We very much hope you will consider putting your name forward for the position of Elected Parent Governor and we would encourage anyone who is interested in finding out more about, and offering guidance to, the management of the school. If you would like to find out more about what is involved you can contact the Chair of the Local Governing Body, Stephen Potter, by emailing and he will be happy to answer any questions that you may have.
