The Charter School

East Dulwich

Build Update: December 2022

The development has now been split into three projects to deliver each of them as soon as possible.

1.     Landscaping of all the student areas - this includes hard landscaping (pathways and recreational spaces) and soft landscaping (tree planting, raised beds and grass). Target completion date: late spring 2023 although spaces are to be handed over earlier as completed.

2.     Temporary classrooms for ‘The Grove’ (specialist provision for autism), some sixth form classrooms and music provision. These classrooms will eventually be in the redeveloped old Dulwich hospital building. Target completion date: summer 2023 with full handover to the school in mid-August 2023

3.     The building of the new hall, drama studio, library and development of the old Dulwich Hospital building will be the home of the music department, our special SEND provision, administration, careers and sixth form. Target completion date: summer 2024

Currently, all three projects are on track to meet their target completion dates. The landscaping and the temporary classrooms are currently out to tender. The Southwark and DFE approvals process for the funding is currently not delayed, and all is in place for a smooth process through to funding sign-off.

The project team are now meeting monthly in a steering group with Southwark councillors, the leaders from the school, and our Trust.

Specialist planning for the opening of The Grove is being led by our Trust Special Educational Needs lead, Will Cannock, alongside Amy Barlow, the Assistant Headteacher and SENCo for the school. The team hopes to share the prosed curriculum, an outline of services and admissions criteria in the coming spring term.
