Update from The Charter Schools Educational Trust - 26.6.20

Dear Parents and Carers,

We are writing to update you about the current plans for the schools within The Charter Schools Educational Trust for September 2020 and the summer ahead. We continue to do the very best we can to ensure your children receive the best possible education during these uncertain times.

We would also like to take this opportunity to thank you all for your ongoing support of your children and their education during the past three months. We have been deeply impressed by how well our pupils and students have stepped up and adapted to learning in different ways. Our teaching teams have worked exceptionally hard to produce and deliver great lessons both in school and online, and your support has been invaluable in making sure that your children have accessed the work and stayed focused.

It is our ambition to fully open all our schools in the Trust to all pupils from September. However, the Government's guidance regarding this wider re-opening has not yet been released and we are therefore unable to give many details about how this may look in practice until that guidance is available.

You will also have heard the Government announcements regarding extra funding for catch up tutoring and summer schools. Both programmes will support pupils in each of our schools, with the tutoring programme launching in September. Both The Charter Schools East and North Dulwich currently use a range of online tutoring support for some pupils, as well as revision support and catch-up groups, and we anticipate this programme will allow us to extend tailored support to even more pupils across the Trust.

The Government’s proposed summer school programme will focus on well-being and physical activity. We understand this is to be coordinated via the local authorities and we will share details of any schemes or opportunities that are available in our local areas as soon as we have more information. However, it is important to note that our schools will not be open to any pupils during the summer holiday period. This is to allow time for essential maintenance, premises improvements and building works, and deep cleaning of each of the sites ahead of the proposed full opening in September.

The Headteachers will also be in touch with further information about their school’s specific reopening plans for September onward once these are confirmed. In the meantime, thank you once again for your continuing help and understanding as we navigate these challenging times

Yours faithfully
