Our school site on Southampton Way will serve as our temporary home until January 2019. The site, originally a Victorian primary school, is a large, fit-for-purpose facility, that has been recently refurbished bespoke for our use for two years. It has more than adequate classrooms, allowing us to run more, smaller classes, which will have a positive effect on students’ well-being and achievement.
Responding to overwhelming community support for The Charter School East Dulwich, the Education Funding Agency (EFA), worked closely with Southwark Council, to secure the temporary use of the former Lewisham and Southwark College campus on Southampton Way, SE5 7EW, close to the redeveloped areas of Burgess Park.
A significant portion of the Silverthorne Building and grounds on the Southampton Way site serve as TCSED's home until we move into our permanent home on the site currently occupied by the Dulwich Community Hospital.
We were very fortunate that a large fit-for-purpose facility became available, providing a number of benefits, including:
- A library, art room, assembly hall and on-site dining spaces.
- Outdoor space for play, outdoor learning & scope to conduct some sporting activity on site.
- Close to community sports facilities in Burgess Park (we also anticipate making some use of sporting facilities at The Charter School North Dulwich).
- Far from the heavy construction work taking place on the hospital site.
The site is 1.2 miles from our eventual permanent base at the Dulwich Community Hospital.
