The Charter School

East Dulwich

Celebration of school site developments

Students, politicians celebrate progress on permanent site

Students from our founding cohort joined local politicians on Friday, 6th October, in a ceremony to celebrate the development of our permanent school site on East Dulwich Grove.

Head Teacher Alex Crossman and a group of students joined with Helen Hayes, member of parliament for Dulwich and West Norwood, councillor Victoria Mills, London Borough of Southwark Cabinet Member for Education and Children’s Services, and mayor of Southwark Charlie Smith in helping to finish off the concrete slab that underpins the main teaching block.

"This [school] is what the free schools movement is meant to be about," said Ms. Hayes; "driven by parental demand and committed to remaining close to its community."

The event was hosted by Kier Construction, the building firm responsible for building the school and attended by the team of architects from FeildenCleggBradley, the studio that designed the school campus. Council officers from Southwark Regeneration, who are managing the project on behalf of The Charter Schools Educational Trust, were also present, along with representatives of the Education and Skills Funding Agency, which provides the funding for the build.
